BNP Paribas Factor
Based in Paris, France, BNP Paribas Factor provides financial services to more than 2,000 companies: corporate financing, credit cover, “dunning” and accounts receivable. BNP Paribas Factor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the leading French banking group BNP Paribas. It was created through the merger of the factoring operations of BNP Bail, Crédit Universel and Paribas (UFB).
Established DDE Customer
BNP Paribas Factor has used Dynasty’s portable object-oriented application development technology, the Dynasty Development EnvironmentTM (DDE) since 1996. BNP is using the DDE to generate all application processing layers of their business applications: Windows-based clients, browser-based clients, business application servers and database servers.
Initial Dynasty projects saw the redevelopment of the legacy mainframe-based mission critical factoring and financial applications. A core set of reusable business components was developed, allowing the new systems to be deployed to a UNIX platform using BEA TUXEDO middleware. Dynasty’s Business Application Framework and reusable objects reduced BNP Paribas Factor’s development time, giving well-architected, reliable and scalable client/server business applications.
Web Services with E-Container
BNP Paribas Factor recently received a request for proposal from a large web site involved in the procurement of construction materials. With only a few weeks of development effort, BNP Paribas Factor successfully used the Dynasty E-ContainerTM component to offer their existing factoring application as a web service. Corporate customers of the web site can now buy their tools and building materials online and get instant credit approval through the services of BNP Paribas Factor.
XML Replacing EDI
As a member of Factors-Chain International (FCI), an international organization of factoring companies, BNP Paribas Factor regularly exchanges factoring information with other FCI members. Expensive EDI-based exchanges has been replaced by Internet-based exchanges using XML. Data communication using XML is also gradually replacing proprietary formats for the batch submission of factoring invoices by BNP Paribas Factor’s customers. This channel of invoice submission represents 70% of BNP Paribas Factor’s invoice processing. The expectation is for an ever increasing amount of Internet-based B2B activity in the future. BNP Paribas Factor’s investment in Dynasty puts them in an ideal position to meet the challenges the future has in store.
BNP PARIBAS FACTOR standardized on DYNASTY to migrate its core business applications from the mainframe to a distributing computing environment. DYNASTY provides BNP PARIBAS FACTOR with a single, visual development environment for all three applications layers - client, application server and database server - as well as the openness and flexibility to integrate disparate technologies into high-performance applications. By utilizing DYNASTY’s component-based framework, BNP Factor’s development team was able to achieve significant economies of scale and reduced application maintenance costs through reusable objects. DYNASTY enabled BNP PARIBAS FACTOR to deliver robust business applications on-time, paving the way for future company growth.”
